Taken to extremes, environmentalism becomes just another religion

I was reading about the Conlin-Beavan family in New York who are experimenting with a zero-emission lifestyle. In reality of course, such a thing is impossible.

In post religion Europe and in parts of America, the environment has replaced god. It reminds me of the phrase by GK Chesterton:
"When people stop believing in God, they don't believe in nothing -- they believe in anything".
