The Republicans got what they deserve

Despite being politically conservative (a dying breed over here in Britain), despite believing in small government, military intervention abroad, globalisation, and faith based initiatives, I was glad to see the Republicans thrashed. They have given Conservatism and America a bad name. Daniel Finkelstein's blog sums up how I feel.

I'm not quite sure what the Democrats stand for though, I'm not sure that they do either.

El Presidente is too busy to meet Ken Livingstone

Ken Livingstone's latest hare-brained scheme has ended in spectacular failure, and it serves him right. Ken Livingstone is a fool who thinks his enemy's enemy are his friends. Hugo Chavez is an opportunist whose has been using cheap oil to buy friends. But El Presidente clearly has better things to do than to spend time with Ken.

The whole sorry episode reveals what a hyprocrite our Mayor is. Here is somebody who sees himself as a champion of the poor and dispossessed, yet he's trying to buy oil from a third world banana republic in order to subsidise the transport of one of the world's wealthiest cities.

How embarrassing for Londoners, this is the clown who represents our city around the world!

Living in crime infested Britain

Here is a typical example of the yob culture that is so pervasive in Britain today. I woke up last Sunday morning to find the windshield of my car smashed. After speaking to witnesses who lived nearby, it transpired that some youths had taken a brick from the nearby nearby skip (there is construction work going on in our street) chucked it through my windshield and then ran off (you can see the desintegrated brick in the photo below). These kind of incidents are so common, the Police won't even bother sending an Officer over, they have more serious crimes to deal with.

Armchair commentators say that fear of crime is invented by the media, but when you take into account the large number of Britons who have actually been victims of crime, it's not very surprising.

Apologies for the lack of blogging

Unfortunately, I have not had much chance to blog lately, partly due to work commitments, and partly due to my ibook being out of action for a week and a half. Both the hard drive and the optical drive failed after just 14 months, I thought these things didn't happen to macs!

Hope to be blogging normally soon!
